More info: DVD release of the 2006 motion picture (ca. 123 min.). Tells the story of Marie Antoinette. Born to Austrian nobility, Marie is only 14 years old when she is pledged to marry Louis XVI, the 15 year old king of France in an alliance that is to ensure peace between Austria and France. Literally stripped of her former life, she is wed to the king who is indifferent and either unwilling or unable to consummate their marriage. More than a bit out of step of the new life that has been thrust upon her, Marie gives herself over to the many pleasures of Versailles while the beginnings of the French Revolution stir.
